| What is it? Sick tang Hi everybody!
Does anybody know, we have our Scope tang quite stressed ( we add another big fish to the tank), yesterday we noticed white itch on it. O'k. but today he covered with dark spots all over the body. It looks like old bruisers. We are sure it starts only today. What could it be? If anybody can identify the problem, how to treat it? we planned to put it into QT and add copper but now we are in doubt
Thanks for help |

| It might be that the other fish was bulling the tang and that got the tang stress, which lead to ICH. The bruises could be from when the other fish hit or did something to him. Are the parameters within good range? What tank size do you have? |

| parameters are 0.0, nitrate are stable 10-15, but after adding new t-5 lighting there is lots of algae bloom with micro bubbles from protein skimmer, i am trying to get of it right now and setting up the Qurantine tank with copper. We added the Powder Brown Tang which is peaceful, but Scopus was very nervous about it and after W/C Ick appeared. |

| If irregular dark spots, may be infestation of turbellarian flatworm and/or skin fluke.
Can be treatedw/ Metriphonate (Oraganophosphorous insecticide; don't kow if obtainable, contact Vet) for 7-10 days continuous bath at dosage of up to 1mg/1 liter of water. Or Formadehyde base product like Formalin bath for few days. I do not know about now, but this was common on yellow tang, pbt, lollipop tangs, etc...
Google for digenetic fluke and turbellaria. compare the pic w/ your fish to see if this can be the causes of the problem. Hope you can find more info on this issues. Last edited by cerianthus; December 27th, 2008 at 10:52 PM.

| scopas tangs and lipstick naso tangs get stress marks on them lipstick nasos get white patches and scopas get black patches these do go when not stressed ,,,
Personally i think you have 2 tangs that are to close in shape and colour and will end up fighting if not all ready for your tank size ,,, when mixing tangs there are a few points to consider ,, you have to mix with different shapes and colours and add at the same time to lessen aggression ,, scopas tangs are one of the less likely to mix with other tangs but not impossible due to there high aggression |

| Thanks all, i supposed that is his own aggression, I will keep him in formalin for awhile and add more rocks to hide for them.
How to fight with algae? I shot down the light, cleaned out the LR, created something to reduce microbubbles from PS and how much light do I need to keep corals ok? |

Check NO3, PO4, and silicate. Can be controlled via medium in the filter. Rather not cut the lighting hours for corals. Make sure to follow instruction on the Formalin Bath in Q/T!!! |

| Hi,
Phosphates are 0.0 Nitrates 10-15, green bubble algae over the rocks and sand,
Scopus died today in Q/T parameters are copper 0.5 Am 0.5,
Brown Tang all in white spots yesterday and less in the morning in the main tank is very active I am afraid to put him in Q/T?,
I'll try ''Stop Parasites" by Chem Marine wich is Ref Safe and helped us before. |

| Sorry to hear. If work for you before why not try again. Bubble algae could become nuisance if not controlled although algae consume waster products produced in the tank. i rather remove the bubble (Valonia Sp.) form sna d with net w/o popping. Take one rock at a time in bucket and scrap them off using brush and rinse thouroughly w/ tap ( reason for one rock at a time) or tank water.
Q/T can be diluted down w/ f/w ( SG: 1.009) which will eradicte the existing parasites in q/t.
Google for Hyposalinity procedures if want to try this method in the future if can get the fish into Q/T!! |

| Yes that is realy works for 3- minutes in fresh water, we used to do it, but for each fish new water, to avoid ammonia poisoning.
When the new tang was left along he was cleared off by cleaner shrimp and looks well
Can I put blue tang with my Braun in my 75 gal tank?

| your tang should be ok with your wrasse ,,,
A few other points ,, your phosphate level if you have a lagae problem doesnt mean that you dont have high levels as the algae consumes the phosphate and you get no reading on your test kit ,,, what test kit you using ,,, your nitrates abit high a water change will lower this ,, also picking up on another Qs you asked about lighting for corals depends on corals, softies if no metal hailides although there are a few hard corals under t5s and grow brilliantly ,,, and lastly sorry to hear your scopas died |

| I use only API tests, cleaner shrimp does his job with brown Tang,
I cut the light from 14 h per day to 8 hours plus 30% w/c cleaning from algea inside the tank (mistake), but mostly every thing ok, I haven't hard corals yet, just soft and polyps, light-t5.
still fighting with microbubbles from PS.
Thanks all. for

| a 75 is a bit small for 1 tang really so wouldnt chance 2 , although the powder brown is one of the smaller tangs it still requires a large swim area as they like to swim fast ,
what skimmer do you have ?? as they might do a added option of a bubble stop ,, |
