after ICh what is next?
Hi,
we lost 2 ( possibly 3) fishes possibly to some parasites. We went today to LFS when we explain symptoms , they did not look surprised , If we supposed that is was parasites, what should we do with our main tank? Should we do some treatment to main tank or we can put there fish again? Invertible would not be affected with parasites?

Hi stalker,
If it was ich, the best treatment is to bring the tank temp up to 83f and maintain the temp for 3 weeks, do 20% water changes every 2nd day making sure the new water is at the same temp.
Did you have the water tested at the shop?

Hi, we did not test, I will find out if we can, but we discussed with them values that we have and they said it was o'k, the man their even advise us not to buy the Cycle or any other bacteria aid. However we did
Would high temperature effect out invertebrates? Or they are pretty tolerant to it?
the other question is if we do not have fishes now, does out invertibrates( 2 shrimps, big brittle starfish, emerald crab ) produce enough of ammonia to help to cycle the tank or we need to add it some how?

They will be ok at this temp for the 3 weeks.
The bacteria will only handle the ammonia that is being produced, when adding more fish it must be done slowly so the bacteria has time to catch up. Add 1 -2 fish then add 2 fish 3 weeks later, then add 2 fish 3 weeks later etc etc this gives the bacteria time to adjust.

Maryann. I'd start a new thread. That way you can keep everything contained to your situation. I'd help but none of my fishes have ever had ich.
Also get specific as to tank size, what fish you have that are dealing with ich and most important, do you have a quarantine tank that you can move the infected fish to during treatment? If have one, then I'd move the infected fish into it. It will reduce the amount of water you'll be changing.
And welcome to Fishlore. Don't worry, you'll get some help from some of the more experienced ones here.

HI MARYANN, WELCOME TO FISHLORE!
If your tank is a saltwater tank, you need to post under disease for saltwater....with your own post, it will get lots more attention, than on an old thread....
I'm not a saltwater person, but would suggest that the ick treatment would likely be the same, unless there is something in your tank that high temperatures would hurt.
ICK can't live over 82 degrees.....so the simple treatment (without medication) is to raise your temperature up to 83 degrees, for two weeks.....do daily or every other day water changes of 25% to replenish oxygen that is depleted in warmer water....That should take care of it.....I hope a SW person will get on soon.....

Maryann, to start your own thread, go to the top of the page and click on the link to Saltwater diseases. That will open up the page you will want to post under. Find the "thread starter' on the left hand side right above where the posts are, and click on that and it will open the window to type in.....When you tack your questions on the end of old threads about other people's tanks it gets too confusing, with advice for your tank scattered all over.
Hope you get more advice soon....
