Why are you scratching Clown, Oh NO!!!!

When I got home from work today I noticed my Tomato Clown rubbing her chin on a rock. Concern hit instantly and upon closer inspection it would appear I have a problem. She has a couple tiny white spots on her chin with a somewhat fuzzy appearance. Doesn't look like the salty appearance of ich. Also on her face around her mouth and on her forehead are some tiny faint greyish spot that look more like Ich or Velvet. I'm pretty sure it's Ich or Velvet. I recently did major rearranging and stressed the fish out BIG time. I'm sure it helped cause the outbreak.

I'm looking for advice. I've read basically two options.

1. I setup a QT tank and tear my display apart to remove the clown for
medicating.

2. I raise the temp to 83ish, do extra water changes, feed high quality
vitamin rich food (do anyway), and try not to stress the fish.

I've read sucess stories for both methods and will be raising the temperature but if enough of you think I'll be better off with the QT and medication I'll set it up.

This has been a troubled week. My Emperor Tetras have some kind of worm. It's in a bubble under their skin. I did a full dose round of Maracide, not sure if they're dead but they are shrinking a bit. I'm now using a very light dose of Quick Cure (Formalin). Keeping it low for the Tetras. I tried to remove one of the worms but they cyst like bubble they're in is pretty tough. Never seen them before and can't find anything on them.

Wish me luck. I really feel like I need a little right now. Kind of a discouraging series of events. It feels like all your efforts are just thrown aside. I pride myself in my water quality but here I am. Goes to show it not just about the water I guess. Thanks in advance for any help or good wishes. I need both lol.

I am sorry I can't help with advice, but I sure can help with good thoughts and support. I do know how traumatic it is to have things go wrong, when you take the extra time to do things properly.

Hope you tetras improve, that must be a scary thing to deal with.

Good luck!! Val

My first inclination for the ich would be to try the temperature method, but I have not had to deal with an ich outbreak myself, so I would be interested to hear what others have to say.

Head high, man...you've got a great tank and a lot of knowledge. You'll work through it!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. News is better today.

After raising the tank to 82 from 79 in the first 24 hours nearly all suspicious spots have vanished. There is a small spot on her chin still but it looks to be shrinking. My trip to the LFS today showed me the origins. The clown they have was very ill with velvet. A couple mushrooms and small rocks I have came from the same tank before the disease had shown it's ugly head. Told her to try the temp trick but hers was pretty far along. Myself however, I believe am in the clear with the clown anyway. The Tetras I'm still unsure on. The worms seem to be dying. They aren't growing anymore anyway. Looking pretty dead anyway. Wish I could remove them. Anyway, atleast things weren't as bad as they felt. lol Thanks again.

Glad things are improving! Ever get an id on the worms?

No idea what they are. I'm pretty sure the light dose of quick cure and medicated food have done the trick. The worms seem to be dead and the bubble they were in looks like they may be shrinking. Been fighting it for going on 3 weeks.

I've battled sever ich from my tang, and recantly another fish that I had introduced gave it to her again. My advice is:

Don't use a QT, stresses the fish too much.
Feed vitamin enriched foods like formula one. I feed F1 Pellets, Prime Reef Frozen cubes and Vitamin enriched Mysis.
Don't stress the fish anymore. Just leave the whole tank alone.

I did this, and my tangs ich was gon in less than a week. It looked like she was sprinkled heavily with salt, so thats how well it worked.

You could also get a cleaner shrimp incase it happens again.
