ick?

Hi all. I have a yellow damsel. For the last couple of days it has been hiding in the corner behind a piece of fake coral and burrowing. It rarely comes out. It has white spots on it, but they seem to appear and disappear. I would like to think it's just sand that he's dug up...but could it be ick? He's being very unsocial.

Hi, try ICH Attack. You just put it in untill the spots are gone. Even if it's not it, that it won't hurt. But it sounds like it is to me.

I think it was just sand. I didn't have really good water parameters...mainly just my nitrites...but now that everything is back to normal...he is swimming fine and the spots are gone...I'll keep an eye out on it though. Thank you!

Hi Jaro5g. Mine also had that: one day there, one day not, next day there, next day not. If I were you, I'd crank up the temp to 30C for 15 days, and I'd watch this space. If you see the white spots again, then I'd start using salt.

This advice is fish-generic, so you'd need to check that your specific fish can take a bit of aquarium salt and such high temps. Also, please increase the temp gradually.

Yeah, nitrites are bad news. Looks like you need to increase the rate of your water changes for the time being.

Hello Armadillo. My tank is relatively new...only like 3 weeks. I also added the fish before my live rock...so once I added my live rock my ammonia and nitrites shot up...but they have gone back down since and my fish are happy again...knock on wood haha.

Well, Carol, I'll have you know that in Holland, you can't put salt in saltwater tanks, so there!

OMG, seriously, though. Thanks, Carol. Can't believe that I ventured in the salt water section and actually gave advice... I didn't realise this was the saltwater section.
Yep, yep, yep, that was REALLY dumb of me, LOL.

he he he. That's me, always on the ball!
