crab killing fish

I just purchased a sally litefoot crab, about a week ago. At the same time I purchased a flame gobi. For the first four days they lived happily together, but the gobi wouldn't come out of where it was hiding. When the gobi did finally come out we were overjoyed. It seemed to me that it was swimming a bit funny, but I dismissed it thinking that that must just be how they swam. The next day, to my horror, my crab was eating the gobi. Has anyone ever seen a crab kill a fish like this before, or is it more likely that the fish died first and the crab just found it? My crab is only about two inches across, so I didn't think he could have done this. Thanks in advance for all of the help. (I attached a picture of the type of crab.)

I'm thinking the gobi died and the crab was just doing what they do in nature. But I've never kept the two, so it's just a guess.

I would also agree. I have emerald crabs and saw one eating one of my fish one time. I did the same thing as you and panicked thinking I had a killer on my hands. Basically the fish died and the crab went all Wooo Hoooo...free meal.

So that brings up the next question you'll have...how did your fish die? Probably from stress but there a number of reasons what the stress could be from. Not being acclimated slowly enough, temps suddenly dropping, ammonia, nitrates or nitrite issues.
