salt water beginner

Hi, I am new to this site and salt water aquariums as well. I've just set up my tank (30gal) and I'm now trying to get the salinity or S.G. correct. Since it is too low, I'm trying to decide on the best way to add more salt. I know i should dissolve it before adding it to the tank, but then I don't know if i need to condition the water first. My current reading is about 18 or 1.012 and it needs to be closer to 30 or 1.022-which im sure most of you already know. If anyone could give me some tips on methods that they may have used that would be great. Also, once I am past this milestone will it be alright to add liverock?

Re: salt water beginner

I pre-mix ot first then put it in. Make sure you let the water circulate before testing. Make sure you add the live rock first then the sand. Also for a little tip. I would buy a refractometer cause it works 100% better then a hydrometer. My friends readings where way off with his hydrometer.
