marine salt vs aquarium salt?

I'm new to all this, and am wondering what is the difference between marine and aquarium salt? if there is any....

i heard that marine salt was for brackish, and salt water tanks.... and the aquarium salt is for fresh water...... ??

But I thought what made freshwater 'fresh' was that their isn't any salt in it

thx

well there is a difference, marine salt is more concentrated i believe, and has more nutrients needed for saltwater/brackish tanks, aquarium salt is used for a few things in fresh water tanks... salt is to help build a coat of slime on the fish to help prevent disease, and used to treat some diseases with salt bathes such as parasites and ICH,(NOTE salt is NOT for snails or catfish(or any other fish without scales)
freshwater does mean fresh and aquarium salt should not be used unless the species your working with prefers trace amounts of aqua salt, or fish with a disease that can be treated/cured with aqua salt.

As steed alluded to, "aquarium salt" should just be sodium chloride with no additional additives; "marine salt", on the other hand, is sodium chloride with the addition of trace elements that marine tanks need (calcium, magnesium, etc.).
