Same Rock, substrate, and water... Cycle??

I want to install a internal oerflow box in my tank, but i have put my fish in another tank to do it. If I buy a 30g sump tank, can I put the LR, fish, substrate and water in without cycling it while i work on my main tanks overflow. i would hook up the canister to the sump tank.

When i finished the main tank i would move everything back but change the substrate (from crushed coral to live sand 2") but let it run on the canister til i finished the sump. after i finished the sump i would put the canister media in the sump and run the sump as the final setup. Is this possible will changing substrate make a deadly cycle?

Hello Fonz,
You can do this, but I would suggest filling the 30 sump with your display tank water first. Then when you remove your live rock, make sure you swish and dunk your live rock in a bucket of saltwater to get all the excess detritus off of it. Then place it in the sump. Then transfer the livestock.

Good luck.
