slightly disturbed

I went to change the cartridges in my filter (which hangs on the back of the tank) when I noticed that as I took out the old cartridges, several (about 7 or 8) copepods (or amphipods, i never remember the difference) were stuck to the filter cartridges! I quickly poked the poor shrimp like buggers back into the tank where the fish wouldn't see them and hoped they made it back into the rock. A few landed on the bottom of the tank and just lay there, moving slightly but moving.... I think the abrupt change of water to air and back to water traumatized the poor things...

I just don't understand how they could have all gotten sucked up in the filter...one or two or four I could understand, but 12 or 13? Is it possible they set up shop and are breeding in my filter? I can't really tell since I'm too short to look directly in the filter....and if they are, should I remove them?

Try putting a little piece of nylon stocking over your intake tube.

Even if i put a nylon cover over the intake, what should i do with the pods already inside the filter?

My pods breed in my filter and sump, i often see one shoot out from the return pump after they got sucked up by the return powerhead.

I wouldn't worry too much, they will find a safe place where its dark to breed. They make a good snack for the fishes when they come out at night.
