Acccck! My clam killed my blenny!

Im not sure "what type" it is but I have had a hitchhiker clam since Sept of last fall in my tank... Finally stuff is coming off to where you can see the coloring, its sids have pretty black/brown patterns on it. However it has had some algae growing around its "mouth" and well... Bob my lawnmower blenny (super good cleaner!) decided to clean the clam. I found him dead, headless this evening laying next to the clam. Bob was so friendly, he would come to the glass and stare at me for min at a time, so when I didn't see him swiming this evening I knew something was wrong.

I have kept a close eye, and played with my SW guys a lot lately since I got the red bristle star that likes to be hand fed.. Its so cool! The new found joy of starfish!

Clams are filter feeders, primarily- sounds like an unlikely suspect. There are fish-eating sea stars, perhaps you have one, maybe even as an unknown hitchhiker?

The clam is a bit jumpy, it always has. As soon as you walk up to the tank it slams shut (thats how we noticed it when we first got the live rock). I honestly think the bleeny was cleaning around "too close" and got scared and slammed shut on its head. Its killed a peppermint shrimp before right in front of me when one of my kids stepped near the tank.

The only star I have is the red brittle that I just bought a couple weeks ago, its been hanging on the other side of the tank and is super friendly (all of my inverts I got from that place have b een, I wonder if that guy handles the inverts alot to tame them? or they just sense me coming around and know FOOD!)

Wow! Sorry about your blenny! I wouldn't expect it to go down like that! Like you said, he may have been cleaning around the edge and got a little too close...
