Long Tentacle Anemone Questions???

Hey everyone, I just got a really nice looking Long Tentacle Anemone for free from one of friends that had to move. Its my first anemone and I had 2 questions.

1) Is there any possible chance that a tank bred clown (False Percula Clownfish) fish will host it?

2) Do I need expensive lights to keep this thing alive?

Any info would be good. Thanks

You need t5 Lighting and pristine water conditions to keep anemones

Yes. I think almost any clownfish will host it although i have 2 black clowns and they dont host my BT anemone

Hope This Helps,

Matt

1) Not sure, but it would not be a normal pairing. More normal clowns for the long tentacle would be maroon clown, skunk clown, saddleback clown, or clark's clown.

2) Depends on your definition of expensive, but it is going to need something more than standard flourescents. I would suggest T5s.

Dont know what type of bulbs you have and how may/what wattages. Need more info. Have kept LTs in low height (12-16") under special flourescent lighting such as full 10K daylight and Actinic 03 bulbs. I believe standard 75 g would be 21" high. Probalbly would need more wattage and specific bulbs for LT to thrive and stay/develop good colors. Better the lighting, better/more metallic colors would sustained/deveops.

Ok thanks everyone, here are some pictures of the anemone. Is it supposed to be on top of the crushed coral like this, even after 3 days? And one last thing should i run carbon in my fluval 405 filter? It makes the water a lot more clear ive noticed but someone at the LFS said not to.

Sorry one more question. Should I get t5 lighting or metal halide lighting. Just wandering which you guys prefer and the cons and pros of each.

Thanks

Metal Halide is known to be better with most things but i had t5s in my old tank adn the anemone did great so its a tough decision.

T5 HO (hight output) vs Metal Halide is greatly debated topic. I recommend either except when a tank is deeper than 24", then I always recommend MH for light penetration. Most reefers run a combination of MH for the daylight and either VHO/PC/T5 for the blue actinic spectrum. It really depends on what you want to keep (think of the future too) and how much you are willing to spend.
