Sick Tank

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a 90 gallon, live rock tank which has been doing great for several years.

Probably let nitrate get a bit higher than I should have, but ammonia still 0.

Illness started on an Imperator angel (no fish are new to the tank).

Began with cloudy eye and light coat of brownish shaggy looking stuff on body and even on eyes. Slight fraying of fins. Started with formalin-low concentration- but fish dead in 4-5 days.

Powder blue next and no shaggy growth, just wasting and fraying over 24 hours and dead.

2 oscellaris clowns next. One with a white filamentous strand 2 inches long hanging from it.

Changed water 20% sevral times throughout and treated with melafix, triple sulfa and metronidazole as well as formalin based product.

Down to a terminal red sea tang in a QT tank and a queen angel and a hippo.

Clearly not lateral line disease, no ulcers, perhaps some whitish coating on body but red sea tang clearly became darkly discolored.

Fins frayed, gills not overly red.

Any ideas, and also what should I do when I lose the whole tank which I fear is imminent.

It is not easy when such mishap occurs. Sorry to hear. Did you ever check Cu level? What is pH, NH3, NO2? SG? Depth of substrate? What kind of substrate? How often substrate is vacuumed?
Have you done anything out of ordinary/routine just prior to mishap?

Hope rest of fish settles down/recovers soon!

Thank you for replies.

pH =8.2-8.4 Water changes are 20% every 3-4 weeks, a stable pattern for years until now. Ammonia=0 Nitrate=80 at the time.

Lost queen angel today and hippo (last one) looks like it is next.

What does one do after this. ??Drain water and let tank sit? kep tank running since hosts are all dead?? keep sand or get rid of it? Bioballs? proteins skimmer?

Pardon me for not replying earlier. Been tight up with work lately. Any pics of sick fish. I would not take the tank apart nor sterilized by chemical means. All that work is worthless once one fish are added to tank. Tank which is sterile can not support life.

I sure like to see pics of fish?

Wondering if did copper testing (Cu)?
