New SW tank

I'm setting up my 55g tank for SW. While I'm deciding what I want to do with it (and saving $$), I am going to add live sand and run it with nothing else. Will this kill off the living organisms in the sand or if I feed it occasionally, will it be ok?

Do you mean live sand from sealed bags? I wouldn't really call it live sand. Just has the potential to become live sand like any other sand out there.

are you tinking about adding live rock

If you are planning on adding live rock to your tank i would recommend doing so before you add the live sand and allowing your tank to cycle for a while even if the rock has been cured. If you just want a sand substrate then i would put the sand in and a very small amount of food and allow the tank to cycle for a longer time to build up your bed of beneficial bacteria.
