| | Fish Keeper | <<< Lots of them questions ;) Hey guys,
I've found a cheap but big tank here on ebay, new, but its from a guy who buys loads to sell cheap, know what i mean?
So anyways.
here is a question or 2...or 100... So yea:
1.) It will take me ages and ages to save up for all the necissary stuff, so i won't even THINK about fish for now, but what i was wondering, should i wait and buy all of the equipment and once i have fill with water w/ saltmix, or fill with water w/ saltmix and then wait ages whilst i save up?
Would it just go dirty? Or is that not possible if it's empty?
2.) what types of PLANTS are their that can go with corals, live rock and sponges?? Or are they're none?
3. Do i put the live sand in first, or the water in first?? :/ May be obvious to one of YOU, haha.
4.) I found a shop what sells live rock (in the uk) for £16 a kilo, and another for £10 a kilo, does that neccisarily mean that the more expensive is better stuff?
5.) Where i found the live sand, it was in a packet, and that kinda stricked me as odd, i thought it would be in a tank, similar to what live rock is in, but is it always in bags?
6.) If i am going to paint a background onto the back of the tank, what if i muck it up? Is it possible to paint over it, and how many people do paint their background instead of buy a 'poster' type one? Or who doesn't even have a background, so you can see right through?
7.) If you have a tank in the wall (don't worry, mine won't be) How the heck do you get into it to clean it and feed the livestock?? :/ I've always wondered that... Curiosity killed the cat!
8.) Do lots of people have much sucess breeding brine shimp and the such like to feed to your fish?? Or is it more trouble than its worth.. Is it cat proof??
9.) Thanks for and replies in advance
oh and just to let you know, I haven't actually got the tank whilst i'm writing this, and i might not win the bid, but any replies would be great anyways. Wish me luck Last edited by charzar-g; February 11th, 2009 at 11:30 AM.

Would it just go dirty? Or is that not possible if it's empty? | I'd just wait. I get more antsy to add fish when it's full lol. Quote:

Check to see whether it's fuly cured, what type it is (base rock, rubble, select pieces, etc) and where it's from. Quote:

It could only be live if it was submersed. Quote:

That was a lot of help, thats annoying to hear that about the bagged live sand,
Darn. Where could i possibly get that from?? I doubt from the beach in the UK!!
Your wall is painted like the ocean?? That sounds amazing!!
I love your puffer fish
My brother used to have some of those, but they died on him. Not sure why...

so anyways: , and again!! | You'd have to get it from an already established tank. Yeah, not from the beach lol. You'd have to sterilize it first
Thanks, I love them too. They're the best pets ever
Here's a pic of my wall... |

It's actually a shelf lol. I wish it was a cage though. My parents aren't too big on having lots of animals in their house, but as soon as I move out, it'll be a snake, and a dwarf hamster, maybe a red eye tree frog.... I just love animals lol. Right now all I have is 4 fish tanks |

|
| | Fish Keeper | a shelf?? Thats not nearly as interesting as a cage! LOL!!
three puffers ^^
My parents aren't too big on animals either, My mum especially doesn't like anything what doesn't have fur (reptiles, amphibieans, the like) Including fish
My dad doesn't like snakes, but he loves fish tanks, my mum won't let him get one though lol!!
Thats why my fishtank is in my room (It would be anyway )
4 fishtanks is actually a lot!!
I hope that hamster and the snake won't be in the same cage eh?
Otherwise snaky would have a quick dinner |

|
| | Fish Master | Haha, yeah I know.
3 puffers in that tank I have one more in another and am getting one more soon
If I brought home a snake my dad said he'd kill it
All my tanks are in my room. It's seriously packed full! 4 tanks, 1 big shelf thing, 1 desk, 1 electric keyboard, 1 big circle chair, 1 bed, and 1 huge bass amp! Lol, there's hardly room to move in there!
Lol, I wouldn't let the snakey eat the little fuzzball |

|
| | Fish Keeper | you should bring a snake home anyway, and hide it under his bed eh? eh?
Joking!!
:/ Your room sounds very crowded indeed!! How come one puffer is all alone??
I work as a voulenteer at this animal place, they used to have a royal python (i think)
It was soo awsome, it was called Liz...although it was a boy... Anyway (that name thing is a long story) It was awsome snake, we washed it in the sink
Sadly it got rehomed recently though, (the place is closing) |

|
| | Fish Master | Lol! That'd go over well!
Cause the single puffer is a dwarf puffer, a FW puffer that's about a 1/2" long. And the others are high brackish puffers that are currently about 2" long.
Aw, poor snakey. |
| |

|
| | Fish Keeper | so are the non dwarf puffers called spotted puffers? Because thats what my brother had, and they were sold as freshwater fish, and they died overnight the first night!! And then when they died, the guy at the shop was like...oh, have another, because they were like 20 pounds each (thats about 40 dollars i think) And they died too,
Did they die because the water wasn't brackish
Yea the snake is at a good home now though, i know the guy who has it
He renamed it rodney. |

|
| | Fish Master | There's hundreds of species of puffers actually lol.
If they died that soon after getting them then they were probably already too sick to survive when you got them. |
| |
February 11th, 2009
|
| | Fish Keeper | all four of them?? ;/
awwh what a bummer.
they looked a lot like yours actually |
| |
February 11th, 2009
|
| | Fish Master | Either the water in your tank was horrible, or they weren't acclimated and died from shock, or they were already way too weak to handle the move.
Then it probably was a green spotted puffer |
| |

|
| | Fish Keeper | it wasn't the water condition, we waited aGES and almost every day went into the shop to test it lol.
We were told (and have done with every fish) to just float the bag in the water for 30 mins, which we did. Could have been that we did wrong??
And i'm not sure about the colour, i'm colourblind
Also, he got bored of his fishtank now. There's only two fish left in it, and he doesn't look after the tank and fish very well at all, i do it all!!
But if and when i get this new tank on ebay, my current tank will become quarintine
My fish will go in my brothers tank, and that tank will THen go to my dad lol. |

|
| | Fish Master | I drip acclimate my puffers, since they're so sensitive.
Well, that makes it a bit hard lol. But they are green actually it's a yellowish green.
Bored of a fishtank?!?!?! How is that possible! |
| |
February 11th, 2009
|
| | Fish Keeper | Yeah i don't know how thats possible either lol!!
I WON THE BIDD!!! OMG I AM SOO HAPPY!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
HORAY!! I LOVE FISH!! I LOVE EBAY!! AND I LOVE MY DADDY WHO IS LIKE THE BEST BIDDER EVER!!! LOL! |
