What is the best beginner saltwater fish?

Hi everyone! Even though I won't get a saltwater fish now(I am getting a pleco) I just wanted to know which is the best saltwater fish for begginers. Thank you for your time!

There is no one "best" beginner fish, for either fresh water or salt. There are many that are hardy enough, and with generous enough care requirements as to be considered good beginner choices. Some salt water examples...chromis, ocellaris clowns, several types of gobies, firefish, cardinal fish, hawkfish, etc, etc.

Sean i have to disagree on cardinals being easy for a begginer. They are very fragile towards water conditions and medications. If i am wrong then sorry but the man at my LFS said that when i asked him if they would be good for me as a beginner and he said "Not quite, They are good for medium experienced aqaurists.

Once again i am sorry if i am wrong.

I've never heard or read of them being anything other than easy to care for.

oh well maybe all the peoples articles you read or all experts therefore they would consider it easy but too begginers they would be considered difficult?

Sorry If I Am Wrong

I know that it is not easy but I wanted to start one but I do not mind. I think I will have some more freshwater fish before I get a saltwater fish. So I can be more expierienced.

Think that would depend if they are CB or Wild, There are some CB ones over here in oz, but a lot of wild ones too.
Make sure they will eat frozen foods before you buy them and you should be right.
Just remember that no fish is easy if you have poor water quality, so the tank set up and filtration is very important.
Add good nutrition and maintenance and things should be ok

NONE! hahaha, I'm just saying that because I had an AWFUL time trying to make the switch to saltwater. I took every flippin' precaution and all I could keep alive was a snail, which doesn't really count because he only lived for a few months.

Well, you know what? Instead of getting a pleco, I will get some other fish. I will have some expierience before I get a saltwater fish and it will not be my next tank.

Good decision Pleco

Pleco before you get a SW tank you always need to research everything and anything ok

hope that helps

Totally agree. SW tanks are very cool and rewarding but the cost is probably double what a similar FW tank costs. Plus the cost of the SW itself. Research is key in a successful SW tank.

Haha, wish mine only cost double what my 55 freshwater tank cost. I sat down the other day and started adding up prices...Well over $1500 in my current 75. I might have $300 in my 55...

Haha Jeff. The prices certainly do add up eventually. In the end it is worth it though
