Girly Question

Hi, here's one for the decorators out there.
We are setting up a 55 gal salt water fish only tank with white sand and Texas Holey Rock (which is white), maybe a few plants. This tank sits in our living room and is huge! I am looking for an inexpensive backround to stick on the back to hide the tubes and wires and such. Problem is, I want something dull. All I can find are bright blues, black, and bright photos of rocks and plants. I did find one that was a wall of shale but it was only 18 inches high and we need 21 inches. Anyone have any suggestion as to where I can buy something understated or even how to make something like that? (Buying is preferable, I am not "crafty") Thanks for any help!

How about painting the outside back of the tank whatever color you want it.

I have poster board on a couple of my betta tanks..One of them is pink lol.....on a 55 gallon you may have to tape them together but the color varieties are endless....

If you really like the rock wall design you could cut 1 1/2" strips of something that sort of matches to tape to the top and bottom of the shale background, I doubt it would be very noticeable.

Another idea would be to cut wallpaper....If you wanted it to match a certain room..hummmmm Why didn't I do that lol....I have 2 55 gallon tanks...1 salt...1 fresh....

Wow wallpaper is a great idea... I have been looking everywhere for an appropriate background for my "Kyoto"/Japanese temple-themed tank... because of your post I just Googled Japanese wall coverings and found a plethora of really gorgeous wallpaper... oh, it is shopping time!! Thanks for the good suggestion!

Many of the wall paper dealers will give you(for free) books of samples (some pretty good size) that have gone out of use.
I have used garbage bags on a couple of tanks

I use old bed sheets that have small holes in them.

I cut them to size and get the sowing machine out to tidy up the ends (not that you have to) and then use a bit of duct tape to hold them in place. I think they are cheap easy and non-shiny but with a small amount of texture.

Another plus factor is if you get small amounts of water down the back of the tank it soaks it up and you can just pull it off stick it in the washing machine and its clean again.
