temperature changes

the temperature in my tank changes during the day. usually by about 4 to 5 degress. it doesn't jump to the higher temperature, but changes gradually as the day goes by. this depends on how hot and humid it is outside and how long i have my lights on. all the books say to keep conditions in the tank stable and i don't know if there is anything i can do or even should do. temperature usually starts at 79

What is it's low point and the high point? What are you running in your tank? How long for the lights?

the lowest point is 79, but the highest i have ever had was 86.5. that was a really hot and humid day and the temp actually started at about 83 and ended at 86.5. since i don't have any life stock in the tank, i'm only running the lights about 6 hours. and on the really hot days i'm not running the lights at all.

Does the room have A/C? If not you can try running a couple of small fans blowing across the top of the tank for evaporitive cooling. If you have a lid on your tank you can try taking it of or opening it up also. In a pinch you can float frozen bottles of water in the tank to cool the water down. Try those first. If those don't work your oppions get a litlle more costly.

i know what you mean. i'll rather not do a chiller since they seem like more trouble than they are worth. i do like the idea of the fans. i did try it on the hottest days and the temperature change was very minnimal. i do like the bottle of ice too. i think i'll keep a couple of those in my freezer just in case. thanks for the ideas.

welcome. A chiller is easy to use and opperate, they are just a bit pricey.
