API Test Kit
I currently have the API Freshwater Master test kit. It does ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, and PH. Would this kit work for testing ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in a SW tank?
Ammonia in SW is the same thing as ammonia in freshwater so I dont see why it wouldnt, but API sells both a freshwater and saltwater version.
Thanks

I bought a seperate ammonia test from API before I got the master kit, While the solution may be the same, it came with 2 different color charts for 1 for freshwater and 1 salt water.

I think it won't work cuase the FW pH test is ment to test low pH levels so your test might not show.

Actually the freshwater kit came with both low level and high level PH. I was mainly just wondering for ammonia nitrite, and nitrate.

Oh..ok. Well then I would give it a shot, but take a water sample to you LFS and let them test it. Then if they get the same results as you then the FW test kits works in both FW and SW.

If you read my post, you'd see the color charts are different for SW and FW ammonia readings.

I'm asumming the solution is the same, but the color charts are different for SW and FW so unless you had a SW chart, you wouldn't get an accurate reading.

I don't have a scanner on my lap top, otherwise I would post it for you.
Good luck, I hope you find it, let me check and see if the instructions are the same.
Edit: The instuctions are the same.

there are specifically TWO different master kits sold...one for FW and one for SW which most is already known...im no SW expert and I would think if it was safe to intermix these two, they WOULDNT have two separate kits...I wouldnt trust using the opposite one and be true to its readings...but thats must my opinion

Shawnie......I have a seperate ammonia kit from API....apart from the master kit.
It states on the box that it's for both SW and FW.....just the color charts are different.
As far as nitrites, nitrates, PH, I have no clue about those tests.
But I agree, if your doing both FW and SW you should buy the appropriate tests.

From what Lucy said, it seems the kit will work for both SW and FW but the color charts are different. So 5PPM is a different color in SW than it is in FW. Thats interesting.

Don't misunderstand me, I don't know about the master kit.
Just what the ammonia test that is sold separately says.
I can't advise anything when it comes to SW.
