Live Rock

Can live rock be cracked and broken into smaller pieces? I have never dealt with live rock before and have no clue on its characteristics!

It certainly can be. I did that with one HUGE piece that I had and was probably 12 lbs. I busted it up to one 8 lbs and then a bunch of smaller ones.

Thank You! My plan for a pico tank may involve buying one large piece from the LFS and breaking it up. Nothing is solid yet, just toying with the idea! Thanks for your help!

Better to buy the size bits you want. If you break it into smaller bits, you will have areas on the rock that are clean

This is true. In my case, I had bought the stuff online and was sent this one piece that was way too big. So I busted it up a bit. But the areas that broken are about as clean as can be. Basically it will be wasted area for while but bio will grow on those areas. It just won't be as good until that happens.

If you can find the right size ones off the bat, you will be better off.
