An offer I don't think we are gonna pass on!
This just came in from my dad.

I think we just broke the barrier into SW for FREE
The guy is moving.
they have a 90 gallon saltwater tank that her hubby has sunk a few thousand into and he told her last night that if she can find someone who she thinks will take care of it and keep it going, he will have her GIVE IT AWAY to them!!! yes, FREE!!!
The whole kit and kaboodle! Tank, filters, fish, coral, stand... ALL OF IT! I'd be willing to give you that 30 and put this 90 down in my bedroom!!!
I will have a lot to learn, but I can do it!
What do you guys think?
She said we can come over to the house tomorrow night and check it out before giving a definite answer.
She's getting the dimensions from her hubby, but it sounds like it's about 48" long, between 12 and 16" wide and tween 16 and 20 tall."
Woohoo!
I can't wait!!!!!

The thing is how are we going to move the thing!!??
O and is your yearly cost to keep your SW tank going?
P.S we are going over tomorrow to look at what we would be getting into. I will take pictures then.

Moving it can be a chore but I have done it many times....Just drain the water into buckets (because you want to put it back in when you get it set up) if you have live rock keep them in the water and I put the fish in buckets....You'll need at least 2 men (4 being better)
The yearly cost is not that expensive as long as things are running smooth..The biggest cost that I have found is the 2 gallons of purified water that needs to be added EVERYDAY to replace the evaporation that goes along with having a sump...I spend at least $60.00 a month on water maybe more because of water changes...Maybe you could purchase an RO system.....It would pay off in the long run..
I'm glad you cleaned your room even if the tank isn't going in there

Lets just say "cleaned" is a relative term! LOL!
Would 3 big teenagers, 2 men and one VERY excited mama be enough to move the thing?
We have an RO system for our drinking water, would that work for the tank?

Yes, that should be enough people to handle it....And all the excited MaMa has to do is be the director
Yes, I believe the RO water should be fine.....The reason I don't use RO system is because my son works for Sparkletts and I get my water at 50% off
Can you ask Andy to take a pic of his room and let us see what he considers clean please

Off topic a bit. You say you've got RO for your drinking water. I've heard that RO is awful to drink. Do you add something after the fact, or just drink it as-is?

Huh, I've never heard that. Our RO drinking water tastes fine. We have the worlds worst tasting well water though.

It has something to do with the fact that pure water (which is what RO produces) is pretty acidic stuff, and that the majority of freshwater on the planet has minerals of some sort or another in it. I don't know, though, as I've never had RO water. I was just wondering because I've been thinking about getting a filter for my house, and an RO filter would serve double purpose around here, as it would help me adjust pH levels in my tanks.

Hmmmmm. The system we have is probably not the worlds finest system and our well water has an astonishing high mineral level. I'm surprised it doesn't come straight out of the tap as rocks. So, between the two, there are probably enough minerals still left in it to affect the taste.
Now I'm wondering if it is ok enough to use with the fish? Our unfiltered water PH is high. I don't think we've ever tested the RO water. Now we're going to have to figure this out because if I have to mess with buying water for the SW tank, I'm not going to take the tank and that will upset a whole alot of boys here at my house.

Do a quick test on your RO water. It should come out pretty acidic. If you have a hardness test, or if you can get one, even better. It should be very soft, as well (I'm not talking about the kind of soft water that comes out of a softener, which just replaces calcium with salt, but true soft water that is nearly devoid of minerals). If it is, you've got the ultimate water for saltwater.
Right now, I can't have a SW tank because the water around here is super hard (like you, I'm surprised it doesn't come out in a solid). If you add enough salt to make marine water to hard water, your fish can suffer from osmotic stress, as their bodies try to balance the mineral/water ratio between their cells and the water outside the cells.
However, if you are starting with RO water, you can play with the mixture to make it exactly right, and a whole bunch easier on the fish. (Hopefully someone who knows the subject better can come in here and state this in a way that's easier to understand. I just can't get it quite right)

we are leaving in 10 min to go look at the tank. I'm going to take a video of it and lot of pictures too. I will post them as soon as we get home and I have a bite to eat. I would say that they will be up by 7:30pm EST.
Wish us luck!
