Cleaner shrimp

I just purchased a cleaner(or skunk stripped) shrimp. I have only had it for two days and today I thought it had died. It looked like my shrimp was caught in the filter. A few minutes later I realized this was his exoskeleton. I read that I might need to add an iodine suppliment to my water to help the shrimp regrow his exoskeleton. Is this true? If so, what brand of suppliment is best?

This is true. I use Kent Marine Super Iodine for my cleaner shrimp. Just follow directions, and add around once or twice a month.

I haven't added supplements to my tank and my fire shrimp has molted twice in the last month or so. Though I do my water changes pretty much weekly (except for when I was on vacation in the Caribbean).

Depending on what brand of salt you use will determine what suppliments you really need. Seachem Reef Salt, for example has enough iodine in it that keeping up with weekly water changes replenishes alot of it, so it might not be a necessity unless you were to add iodine hungry corals or the like
