Tank Backgrounds...

So, I have a 55 gallon saltwater setup and need ideas for background.

1.) I've considered painting the background, but it's too time consuming to paint all that detail--considered not an option...
2.) I've looked into various store-bought backgrounds, but can't find the right one that fits just right...
3.) I've also considered the blue/silver reflective backgrounds...

My question is this:
Which would look the best with my anemone, percula clownfish, damsel fish, and crabs?

It is a reef setup so I kinda want something to fit my fish, but not something that is widely used...what am I to do??

well a solid color of black would help the colors of the fish and corals "pop" another thing is if you are just setting it up make sure to take it slow really slow. Reef tanks are like race cars, the faster you go the harder they crash. Also anemones shouldnt be added untill 6 months out. But it seems like you arnt new to this

welcome to fishlore - have you checked online stores like drsfosterandsmith.com and http://youraquariumcenter.com/backgrounds.html ? There's even 3D backgrounds if you want to spend that much, but check with our SW tank owners here. I think the most common background is a dark paint job, usually black.

Solid black or blue are common choices because, as Wolfgang pointed out, they draw out the colors in your aquarium very well. If you want to give them a try, you should be able to find a reversible background that has blue on one side and black on the other. Then you can just display whichever side you like best.

I'm going to just paint the back of my tank, solid black, using acrylic paint.

I always use black tagboard. I 'laminate" the back of it with that clear packaging tape to prevent it from getting ruined by water spills, but leave the side that faces the tank blank. I find it looks pretty natural and sets off the fish and plants well.
