Watch the emerald crab. They do not always play nice with corals, especially as they get bigger.

That should work. Like Sean said keep an eye on the Emerald crab, and I would invest in a refractometer, in stead of a hydrometer. They are more acurate.

Point of note. It's not that the hydrometer is less accurate, it's that it's more prone to human error. The refractometers (presuming you purchase a high-quality one) are far less prone to mistakes that can affect readings.

And:
Being a freshwater person, that sounds like so much stuff for a 29g. It should be a neat setup.

Well its three 3" fish. Crabs and snails don't count to much towards bioload and neither do shrimp. So its large in quantity but actually less than the bioload that one would normally stock a 29.

Im a freshwater person as well, just thinking about SW =)

I will probably just use a hydrometer. Don't really want to fork out 80 dollars on a refractometer quite yet.

I know that it's an amount that would likely work (my only concern would be the snails, since they tend to put out quite a bit of waste), it's just that the sheer number of things seems to be a lot. I'm actually thinking more in terms of "personal space" for each critter. Reefs, however, have different rules than nearly any freshwater space in nature. Because they are little islands of livable areas in the ocean, the concentration of critters in the area is far greater than what you'd find in a lake or river.

Yep. The randalls goby is actually a shrimp goby that forms a symbiotic pair with the pistol shrimp. Since the goby has such good eyesight it warns the pistol shrimp when predators are coming and the pistol shrimp brings the goby food and provides protection in return. They share a small cave or hole. very neat critters.

The clownfish are really active but normally host either a nem or coral. So thats their spot.

The cleaner shrimp is always moving about scavenging or "cleaning".

Hermit crabs are also the same way as the shrimp.

All the snails are like FW snails. They just kinda go haha.

The crab will have a hole that it will go to frequently but it also scavenges quite a bit.

Corals don't move since you superglue them. Nems can move on their own and can sting corals so you have to be careful with them but once they find a place they normally stay there for a while unless you change flow, aquascape, etc. Then they will move if they aren't happy.

Oh yeah. I will probably get the mh SunPod for the 29BC if I get it. Corals will grow better and will have better color.

As someone mentioned, the emerald crab may become aggressive towards your corals as he gets bigger. I had a pair of them which were quite large. I then started adding coral and the both of them had started to munch on them within a couple of days.

The hydrometer is fine for now but I ended up getting a refractometer myself. The thing to know about the hydrometer is that when you go to use it: fill it up and then empty it about 5 times. Then it will give you an accurate reading.

And welcome to the world of SW!!
