Hi all! VERY new to the saltwater tanks. Have a 55gal fully planted fresh and have always been into fish just never made that jump. Unfortunatly for most people I am an employee at a corporate petstore but I am trying to grow my knowledge. I honestly do care about the animals. We just started carrying saltwater! I currently have a 29gal Eclipse system but I can not find a skimmer that will fit on the hood! I found this one. http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS...proteinskimmer It looks like it might fit, but wondering if anyone has any ideas? The hole is only about 3 x 3 inches. My tank has been set up for almost two months with crushed coral and about 20lbs live rock so far. I do have a coral banded shrimp, 3 blue legged hermit crabs and a chocolate chip starfish. salinity is at 1.023 and ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are good! Any info about the skimmer or any tips would be amazing. I did find a purple psuedochromis that I love. Does anyone know any tankmates that could go in a 30gal?

Hi! I ran a 22 gallon nano reef for years with no protien skimmer, trouble free. I did find one that suction cupped on the glassin the water and then had a airline running down to a small pump. The problem was that protien skimmers need to be adjusted frequently for optimal performance. This one had no adjustment other than moving it up or down on the inside of the glass. It was unsightly, and impractical. I just dug it out to see who made it, but there are no markings. I think it was Red Sea, called a nano skimmer. The point is, if you have good filtration and keep your water clean, you may not even need one on a 30 gallon tank. ps does your hermit crab not harrass your starfish? I love stars, but they will harm my corals, so oh well. cheers!
