saltwater tank growth

I have an established saltwater tank. We clean it & do water changes about every 4-5 weeks. Last week I noticed a white flower like growth in a secluded corner right next to one of the pumps. It's growing out of the sand like a normal flower would out of the ground.
Am I right in thinking that it needs to go? I will have to disturb the tank & move half my rock. I hate doing that to my fish. The last time I moved that much rock, my flame angelfish, Aponi (Cherokee for butterfly), died the next morning.

Are the small?? Do they look like tiny aneomnes?? They might be what I have. They are, from what I can see and observe harmless. They might try to take over your tank, but they are so small it hardly matters.

A picture would be useful for ID. It could be aiptasia or mojanos, and you don't want those guys, no matter how small and harmless they look.

The reason your fish died last time is likely due to an ammonia or nitrate spike from moving rocks around. Detrius is disturbed and the decaying matter enters the water column causing a spike. Are you running a skimmer or just HOB filters? Either way I would step up water changes to every 2 weeks to keep up with water quality.
