New tank specific gravity problem.

This is my problem I have 2 forms of checking the specific gravity of my tanks, 1 of which is a marineland and the other is the dropper looking like 1. I have been starting my new tank for about a week now and the dropper says that I need more salt, but the marineland is perfect. Which 1 should I go with? But when i put the dropper looking like 1 in the old tank its perfect but the marineland is high. I dont know which 1 to go with any suggestions??

Take your hydrometers to your LFS and have them compared with the reading from a refractometer. Then you will know which one is more accurate. Hydrometers are notorious for giving you inaccurate readings. When funds permit, I would highly recommend purchasing a refractometer. You can get them online for about $40 and IMO it's one of the best investments you can make.

So the refracto-majigger is alot more accurate. I might have to look into that then.

And also is it ok to add super buffer even though the pH is ok?

Yes, but you'll need to calibrate it. You can use RO/DI water for this; it's quite easy. You just need to adjust the reading to 0 when you use the RO/DI if it's not there already.

Why would you want to add a buffer if your pH is within acceptable range? I wouldn't.
