There's a primer called red oxide that you apply to all the welds but you can use it on the whole tank. Is usually used by people that do iron works. You need to apply it thick and after that you can prime it with rustoleum primer. Good luck.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't sleep at night without having a timber post bolted in the middle of the length of the frame, front and back, from the top of the metal frame to the floor. I work with wood and have no idea about metal, but any deflection at all between the posts would put unhealthy pressure on the vertical glass panels.
The two extra legs would be simple to attach and by their positioning will take a huge load off the other legs, and eliminate any deflection.
I don't quite understand how building a base alone will spread the weight, as the down force on the 4 outer legs will be the same - maybe larger thick pads between feet and floor will help a little in the immediate area, but the load will not travel sideways on a base at floor level, if that is my understanding.

with the tensile strength of steel it is very unlikely that you will get the pressure to deflect even a couple microns... also if you put a piece of plywood for the tank itself to set on it would also help distribute the weight of the tank over the entire stand...

as for the base the idea would be the same as your feet idea... except it increases the area the force gets distributed... a piece of angle iron the same width as you used on the legs to make a base all the way around so basically a giant single foot so the overall pressure (which is what matters, not the force) on the ground is less than that of what it is without it

We have friends that have a huge headboard tank. They are in the process of moving it. The are building an inset bar so that tank will be part of their livingroom/kitchen. They wanted to be able to view it in the main living area. I'm guessing the maintenance was too messy right next to their bed.
It is going to be amazing. Your only problem will be keeping gawkers away from your bedroom-if that's a problem. It's hard to resist staring at a show piece like that.

Sounds like a cool Idea... BUT! be careful...
everyone is worried it will fall on you for a reason...

Also... a basic building principle for your stand... make the longest pieces possible fit (less welding, yes a good weld has 60-70kpsi but it also heats up the metal and stresses it where its not welded... and one little fault in a weld will end it... and then you get a domino effect...)
Like the top part of your stand... several small pieces welded to long uprights that stick up to the top... It should be a full top stand with uprights pushed up to the bottoms of it...
Also the plywood across the top to distribute the pressure is a good idea, or possibly some 45s in between the top layer of framing on a horizontal with additional supports to take some of the inner pressure...
Course the stand might be fine but 125 gallons of water is FARKIN HEAVY...
like for real... then your gonna fill it with rocks and such... and its made of glass... were talking serious wait... just wouldnt want it to come crashing down...

killing you and possibly your lady of the evening...
