| Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't sleep at night without having a timber post bolted in the middle of the length of the frame, front and back, from the top of the metal frame to the floor. I work with wood and have no idea about metal, but any deflection at all between the posts would put unhealthy pressure on the vertical glass panels.
The two extra legs would be simple to attach and by their positioning will take a huge load off the other legs, and eliminate any deflection.
I don't quite understand how building a base alone will spread the weight, as the down force on the 4 outer legs will be the same - maybe larger thick pads between feet and floor will help a little in the immediate area, but the load will not travel sideways on a base at floor level, if that is my understanding.
