Used tank and equipment

Hello, I would appreciate any help I can get. I recently traded off some stuff I was not using for a saltwater aquarium setup. Although I had a SW tank in college it was not standard setup due to funds, time and knowledge. Because it has been over 25 years and the setup I used originally would not work well I was hoping I could get some help in setting up this tank. I have attached some pictures of the accessories that I received. I can also provide high resolution pictures if you need. I know a few of them like the air pumps but others I do not know what they are for and how to hook them up correctly. I also do not know if I am missing anything that i would need to purchase. In the deal there is 3 medium size totes of coral/rock and about 50lbs of crushed coral (not pictured). I have not seen any diagrams anywhere on how to hook everything up.

Thank you in advance,
Albert

well from what i can see theres a RO unit which is for filling up ya tank ,,,,
There is also a sump (glass tank last pic) and as most sumps are DIY then they can be fitted many different ways but general idea is same google sumps,,
i see a air stone which is not needed if you have enough movement around the tank with power heads ,,,,

2nd pic is metal halide fittings and ballasts wit what looks like some sort ov auto top up system or the return pump from the sump ,,,

1st picture black box is overflow box,,, a test kit and a heater

what i dont see there is a skimmer which i would advise you buy one to fit in sump

3rd pic is a bio ball tower where you would put in the right hand side of the sump and would feed from your overflow box then in to sump ,, but personally i would remove balls and put live rock rubble in there as bio balls can be nitrate factories and not really good ,, unless well maintained hope this helps you out a bit

First picture:

-Top center is an RO unit and a bunch of random hosing.

-Mid level, top left is a test kit, around the test kit is a bunch of additives. Can't read what all the additives are. The top right is a HOB filter, which isn't particularly needed with a sump setup. Bottom center looks like a couple stands for an undergravel filter, also not needed for a SW setup. Bottom right has what looks like 6 aquarium heaters a light timer, hydrometer and a random green cap.

-Bottom level, looks like a bunch of bubblers and airstones, not needed for a SW setup.

Second picture:

-Looks like older magnetic ballasts and screw in type metal halide bulbs. With some reflectors they would be very nice over a tank. There is also a return pump that is runs out of the sump, it should not be submersed.

Third picture:

-Looks like a bioball chamber for a sump. I would remove the bioballs and replace them with live rock. For SW they actually work too well and produce a ton of nitrates.

Fourth picture:

-This is a sump setup with all the hard plumbing and acrylic work already done. With a good cleaning it will be good to go to be hooked up to your pump you got, btw that's about a $90 pump when you buy it new.

Some additional equipment you will want to find is a protein skimmer and powerheads for extra movement in your display tank.

Thank you both so much for the information. I did forget to mention that when I received the tank I also received a 20gal tank which told was for live rock only but having worked with FW tanks noticed alot of items that would be good for the FW setup but did not know if they would work in SW also. Thanks for letting me know of those items I will not need.

In the third picture with the bio ball tower there is a sheet of glass after some research it looks like it would go across the top of the tank siliconed in as to support the sides of the tank. Is this correct and necessary?

Do I need that many heaters, what is recommended as far as knowing which should be used?

Are those halide lights right for having live rock? There are 2 bulbs not pictured but can get pictures if needed not sure of the wattage of the bulb as it does not say anywhere on the bulbs. I would imagine that a custom hood needs to be made and the lights mounted 16" or so above the water and a fan installed. Is that recommended?

When removing the bio balls and replacing with live rock do I need to place a light over it to keep the rock growing properly. This whole setup of sump and bio ball unit and pump would go under the stand and would be dark but not sure if that is ok for the live rock or do I need to do something special for the live rock in that unit.

In the top of the first picture next to the RO there is a T hose. Does that hose hook up to the overflows in the corners of the tank and go to the sump or pump?

Thanks again for your help,
Albert
