New Tank

I was giving a 75g tank with built in over flow and pre drilled holes it also came with a wet dry filter, protein skimmer that the person is not sure if they still work he said they worked when it was set up but have been sitting for a couple of years and a bunch of live rock that has been sitting out of water for about 2 years.I have run a 55g tank for a couple months now with three damsels , two clown fish and about 40lbs of live rock.IT has been fine it was a rough start but it was worth it but this 75g seems to be a whole new ball game that i want to do right but i am not familiar with the whole wet dry filter or skimmers.I want to do this tank right the first time around so please i need all the help and advise i can get from all of the experts that or on this forum.THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE FOR ALL THE HELP YOU GUYS ARE GOING BE

I would say ditch the wet-dry filter. Your live rock should be capable of doing all the filtering. Get the tank setup with SW, then put the dead rock in the tank, then move over a piece or two of the LR in your current tank and begin the cycle.

Never ditch anything. Save it to see if can be modified to use as Refuge or sump etc...

Great point cerianthus. Definitely use it as sump. Just to clarify, I never said don't re-use it as something else. Just don't use it as a wet-dry filter. I'm guessing, it has bio-balls? Do not use them with a saltwater tank, they will be a nitrate factory.

to add on to what Travie said...replace bio-balls (if present) with more live rock. You can never have too much live rock LOL. What kind of skimmer is it? In line? In sump? That will determine how you set it up. Are you thinking of transferring everything over? Or just going with a second SW tank?
