Everyone seems have a point. But IMHO, as few members pointed out, it is better to leave the tank alone when so called cycling w/ LR.
It is my understanding even cured LR needs to be recured after the shipping due to die off. LR is called LR mainly due to biological activities of the Rock, not for creatures that may survive the trip, although this is how I get unimaginable creatures (sponges, squirts, Macro, etc) in the tank. As Nemo has mentioned, amount of bio activies equals amount of bio load, LR is already bioactive. Therfore tank will cycle faster if not disturbed. As Livestock increase so is bio activities.
live rock is part of natural filters in the oceans and I firmly believe in their advantages in the tank during cycling and infinite years after that.
When proper LR is is used properly, may not even see
NH3,
NO2 registering with test. Just don't over load the system with large amount of livestocks at once.
