With proper circulation only a couple of hours. As for what the box calls for, this is a general guide line. Mine says 1/2 cup of salt per gallon. But for me it tends to be more along the line of 3/4cup per gallon.
If your tank is clear then it is fully desolved and more needs to be added. if it is still cloudy it needs to be mixed so that is will finish disolving

82 is not high enough to panic about, but you don't want it going much higher. Tricks for cooling it down: 1) freeze some plastic water bottles and float them in the tank; 2) blow a fan across the surface of the tank for evaporative cooling; 3) invest in a chiller (expensive!); 4) rig a temporary chiller. There is a picture of one somewhere on the boards, but it is essentially a beverage cooler filled with ice water with tank water being pumped through it inside coils of tubing, then back to the tank; 5) turn up your house AC.

The AC one is the one i'm using and it works well but if you don't have a heater the temp. will change alot and thats not good. The only down side is while the temp. is ok you might be too cold. It takes my AC to the max to cool it down, but i've gotten used to it. And what sean said is very true i was looking at a chiller cause i had the same problem and the cheatest was around 198!!!!

I use the evaporitive cooling with fans blowing across my main tank and my sump, and on extrmely hot days I have frozen 1 liter bottles I can put into the sump to help cool it off even more. If you do use the fans just remeber to keep an eye on your water level as it will decrease beause of the fans, and when you add water to bring the level back up, only use fresh water not salt water. Only the water evaporates, not the salt.

You may want to try using a air bubbler , i read somewhere that adding oxygen to the SW tank can also keep the temp lower ,but keep it away from corals .
I went and got one and my temp now dont go over 80.
And my friend has FW and we live in same building she has the air bubblers and never has a temp problem but did with her SW untill we put the bubblers in the SW tanks we were having temps above 80.
Just a thaught
