If were to add LR from a tank older than a year, can I add it straight into the main tank??

You can. Just add a little at a time. For your size tank I would sugest no more then 5-8lbs or so. Just keep an eye on your water perameters and add the rock

I plan on buying a 55. Would I still need to cycle my tank if I move everything from this tank to the other??

There might be a small cycle in the tank but not really be a big deal.
