OK I have only been doing this for a short time now and I am addicted lol. I am starting a saltwater tank on the 8th of February and I honestly can't wait! I've done alot of research and thankfully have a friend who maintains three saltwater tanks at his house who i going to help me get all set up. I probably wont have any fish for a couple of months just so I can better learn about taking care of the tank and such but either way i'm excited to get started. I'm going to buy the sand and salt this week and I am having a litte trouble deciding on whether or not to go with sand alone or use an undergravel filter and use crushed coral. Any advice you guys have would be great!

i did the very same when i first got started!! everytime i went out shopping somehow i ended up with a fish or two for a tank of mine or my friends! lol he wasnt amused..

best of luck to you. I wish i had the room for another tank, MTS has hit but i had to let it go the way of "old yeller" ( till i get a bigger place)

I would recommend not using the crushed coral and not using a UGF. Look into aragonite based sand and for mechanical filters look into powerfilters or canister type filters. live rock is fantastic for handling the bio-load.

Also, moving this to the salty boards.
