New 55 Gallon FOWLR Setup...

Hey Everyone,

I just purchased a 55 gallon tank with built in overflow (2 pre drilled holes) as well as the tubing setup that goes inside of the overflow and an awesome stand with canopy. My plan is to buy an acylic sump made by All-Glass Aquarium. I believe its called the Megaflow Sump. It has 1 - 1 inch inlet, an overflow chamber, removable filter tray, a section for a submersible pump (not a clue about that), a covered sump area, and space where I will put my protein skimmer. My question is how does the water go from the tank to the sump, through the filter media (whether it be bio balls or some other filter media, to the protein skimmer, and the back up to the tank? How on earth does that happen? And my last question is...can i place a submersible heater in my sump? And will that be sufficient to heat my entire tank (assuming that I have a strong enough heater). Any answers or suggestions would be great! Thanks for all of your help!!

Congrats on the new RR (reef ready) tank !
I took a look at the Megaflow Sump, the only thing I would find out is how large the area were the protein skimmer goes. Most modern protein skimmer take up quite a bit of space. Research the size requirements for the protein skimmer you want or have, and see if it fits. As for how the water gets back in the tank. you will have to buy a return water pump. I use a Rio 1700, which gives me about 300gph through the sump. g2g more later !
