Whatever it says on the directions !
specific gravity: between 1.020-1.022 for fish-only aquariums and 1.023-1.025 for reef aquariums.

Re: How much salt?

Differs by what salt you use, and what level SG you are trying to maintain. I use instant ocean mix at roughly 1/2 cup salt per gallon of water.

Re: How much salt?

I've spoken with a few people and we don't follow the directions. There are a few factors to consider. You won't get all of it dissolved, regardless of what you see. Best case scenario is to add salt to hot water to dissolve it, then add that water to an empty tank. If you already added the water, no big. Slowly add salt to your tank mixing it well (careful of the mess) and keep taking readings. I did this when setting up my first SW and used a whisk while I was adding salt. When you're in range, let a full day pass. The trick is figuring out how much water will evaporate. Water will evaporate but the salt won't. Take readings every day for a week and you'll see how fast or slow your salt content is rising. That way you can make small adjustments when needed instead of big "quick fix" adjustments that many new owners make the mistake of doing.

Hope I helped.
