Dimmer lights

Quote:
Hi everyone. I'd like a light that switches on gradually for my fish. Am sure that stark neon light that comes on at once must startle them. What do you use to deal with that? Are there dimmer switches, is it a special type of bulb (i.e. not neon), etc. Your suggestions, recommendations and ideas are much appreciated.

There accually IS a dimmer switch. My Biocube has one. The problem is, unless you get a light that has those ones that are used in streetlights (my science teacher used those for his 100ga), the ones that slowly warm up, you cant avoid the sudden light change. on my Biocube is two switches.
one changes my LED moonlight to a low, dim light, and the other turns on/ off my high power lights. So, there are dimmer lights, but they wont be perfect, sorry.

Re: Dimmer lights

Oh, but that's good news. At least something exists. But I guess it won't fit in my tanks if these are fitted to hold fluorescent.

Armadillo, what else did you learn about the dimmers? Did you ever find one for your tank? How'd it go?

Oh Aaron you caught me being lazy. Never checked it. What I do now is I leave desklamp on, it's close to the tank. I make sure it's still on 10 mins before lights on, and 10 mins after lights off.

I don't know if anyone else is still looking into this but.... I went to a restaurant and in the bathrooms the lights were like street lamps I turned the light on and was wondering why it was so dim, then as I was going to the bathroom it brightened up.

Certain fixtures (ie normally ones that have mh bulbs, as well as lunar and another) will usually come with three powercords, which can be hooked up to timers. It's not the prettiest setup in terms of multiple chords behind the tank, but I plan on having it set up like this:
830 am - acitinic (sp?) lights go on
9 am - one MH light turns on
10 am - second MH light goes on
9 pm - one mh goes off
930 pm - second mh light goes off
10 - acitinic lights off
10 - moon lights come on

or something close to that anyways
