Saltwater Aquarium Lighting Forum for saltwater aquarium lighting topics. Perhaps one of the most expensive components in a reef tank set up, lighting is a topic that should researched thoroughly by the hobbyist. The type of lighting you use will determine which corals you can keep. There are several options for lighting such as T5-HO, VHO, Metal Halide, Power Compact and more recently LED. The new LED set ups are rather expensive but they can save you money in the long run.

RIO 125 lighting question

Hello this is my first post.

I have recently converted a freshwater Juwel RIO 125 that has now been set up as a FO system (still cycling 3 weeks) with a newly purchased Juwel T5 lighting bar with dual T5's 28W each and reflectors.

Is the above suitable for moving to a live rock system and any type of corals or anemone if I later want to purchase a common clown fish or two or is this lighting set up only suitable for a FO set up. I would welcome suggestions for suitable lighting for this tank to move to live rock with some corals.

Thanks

Tank set up is :-

Tunze 6025 powerhead
TetraTec EX 700 (ceramic rings only)
Juwel Internal Filter (no carbon)
Marine Sand
4 x Blacktailed humbugs (Damselfish)
SG 1.024 / pH 8.0 / 77F

Is the T-5 Actinic and Daylight? or just daylight? I'm pretty sure It's still under wattage. To keep an anemone, It's best to have halides, but it could survive with another kind of lighting. Forgot which one. With actinic you could only keep soft corals and for hard corals you will need halides.

I would build my own canopy (following dimensions of your tank) and install custom (DIY) lighting instead of buying ready made fixtures. They are a lot cheaper. A good website for lights is either aquacave or marine depot
