Saltwater Aquarium Lighting Forum for saltwater aquarium lighting topics. Perhaps one of the most expensive components in a reef tank set up, lighting is a topic that should researched thoroughly by the hobbyist. The type of lighting you use will determine which corals you can keep. There are several options for lighting such as T5-HO, VHO, Metal Halide, Power Compact and more recently LED. The new LED set ups are rather expensive but they can save you money in the long run.

LIght for corals

My algae problem is gone!! The turn the lights off plan worked! I had an algae prolbem so my LFS told me to turn the lights off and it worked. I'm getting more turbos to make sure they get a really good head start. My LR color is turning red, green, and even blue. Anyways for the question. IF turning off the lights and doing water changes every three days( my water is super clear) helps get rid of the algae what do I do when I get corals?? Should I leave the lights on from 4-8 or 9?? Or from 7-8?? I'm asking this becuase i'm afrais if I turn the lights on to long the algae( which took like a month to find a soultion) will come back. What do you do to have corals and keep algae away??

P.S> This is my plan for corals:
Buy a test kit for calcuim and phost.
If heavly stocked test every other day if moderate every three days and if little twice a week
Is this ok?? What do you use for a clacuim soultion and test method??

well if you keep your phosphate levels down your CUC and glass cleaner should do the rest , some fish need algae to graze off in between feeds so is good to have a little depending on your stocking
