Nuisance Algae

Forum,

I have nuisance algae, (Brown Algae) as it is keeping my N.O lighting on for 10-12 hours.Would V.H.O lighting cause the algae to grow more or less and turn it to a green algae?

Getting more light intensity over the tank will only accelerate the growth rate. Some more info would help:

What are you water parameter readings (nitrates, phosphates)?
Are you using a protein skimmer?
How often are you doing partial water changes?
How much live rock do you have?
How much water movement do you have (powerheads)?
Are you using a filter of any type? If so, how often are you replacing/rinsing out the media? Filters can become nitrate factories if not maintained frequently.

Mike,

Sorry Mike I had been asking questions about lighting and other stuff but forgot to check for reply's but I had made up my mind to start saving for possibly MH,VHO,and HO,but it seemed to be from the cycling process as it is very clean now, (no brown algae.)

Thanks Bryce,
