power head ? for sw

I have 55gal SW which making into a coral tank. I have powerhead 160gph and marineland 350. I know this is under power circulation for my tank. I just ordered Hydor Koralia #2 which does 600gph. I think I was told to put them on opposite ends so they blow an “X” in the tank? Is that up high in middle or at base of tank? Also, the power-head 160gph has a place for a line tube. Do I need to use that to make bubbles or is the circulation fine? thanks

Depth of placement will default to somewhere in the middle by simpler virtue of consequences of placing too high or too low. Too high and you end up blowing/splashing water out of the top. Too low and you end up with a "sandstorm" as the powerhead churns up your substrate. Having said that, having some current at the surface is good to aid oxygen exchange. I like to see the surface moving, but nothing actually gurgling up from the surface.

Current is typically the primary goal, you should not need to run the venturi line (bubbles) for the powerhead.
