Filter Recommendations

Hi all.... I have been out of the SW hobby for about 4 or 5 years now. I did have a 120g with hanging overflow into a wet/dry. Well, I was just given a 90g with a built in overflow box. So.... my question is: what are my best filter/media options for a reef/fish setup? It seems from what I have been reading on here is that a sump with skimmer and without bio is best.... any thoughts?

Hi welcome to fishlore!
It seems that if you use plenty of live rock, then a filter is not necessary, just a skimmer would be best. Good luck with your tank!

Live rock, 20-40x water movement in the display and a over sized protein skimmer. Oh yeah, and go barebottom !
. Good luck.

the refugium is a good thing to have same with the wet/dry. but as pinkfloydpuffer said it all depends on how much live rock you have. but with a reef tank, i would recommend that you have a refugium, many corals do not like a lot of water chemistry changes. good luck. if you got more questions just ask!!!
