I was reading about an article about reef tank and notice it said something about filters. It said that filter should not be used in SW tank becuase the filter traps waste and other stuff which build up cuaseing problems. Is this true??

I'd say yes it was true, would really depend on the filter and how good its cleaned and kept up. Would i totally take it out? Depends on the filter. I run HOBs on my 10gal nano with filter floss/filter pads in them just to catch solid waste and replace them each water change.

But yes generally you want to eliminate dead spots in the tank, anywhere that wastes collect.

As long as you have LR, do WC's, and have some water movement....no i doubt it will make any difference if you take it out.

The only difference i can see it making is maybe reducing your nitrate levels because you are getting rid of the waste trap.
