hi, i'm new to aquariums so any help would be great.
I have a 800 litre FOWLR setup, i've got 40 kilos of live rock a 3 stage built in mechanical/biological filter and a red sea pro H.O.B skimmer.
I've just bought a fluval fx5 canister filter and was thinking that once it was set up i could get rid of the annoying skimmer, would this work or am i best using both?

You are better off with the skimmer and not the canister filter. Canister filters tend to be nitrate producers and tend to cause more harm then good.

If you are going to run one or the other, you are better off sticking with the skimmer.

Upgrade your skimmer. Canister filters are more of a freshwater filter.
