my marine tank has been up and running now for about 3 mths, i am haveing trouble with algae,its like a black film on the sand and the rock,can anyone advise me on what to do please.

Hi Jennifer - What are your water parameters? What kind of water do you use for top-offs? Lighting type?

my paras are spot on,the mistake i have made is,i have used tap water i dont have a ro,thanks.

RO water would help, so would protein skimming, keeping the tank lightly stocked, weekly partial water changes, using a phosphate remover in the filter, changing out and/or rinsing the filter pads frequently (every day or every two days), etc.
