Is this a type of algae?

I'm guessing it is since it's on a couple of my base rock and on the live sand. And a few spots on the glass of the tank. Now the tank does get about 2 hours of sunlight a day. Not enough to raise the temps but there is still enough sunlight hitting it. The algae is rust color as you can see in the pic.

So my question is what kind of algae is this and what's the best way to get rid of it. I have a feeling one answer is going to be to prevent the sunlight from hitting the tank.

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like it may be diatoms which can happen after a heavy feeding, water change, replacing a large amount of macro algae. Having a refugium with competing forms of macroalgae such as chaeto, gracilaria will compete against these for nutrients.

Without the light the algae would have a harder time growing BUT light is not the only factor for algae growth. The amount of nutrients in the tank like nitrates, phosphates, silicates, dissolved organics, etc. all contribute to the growth.

This should be a better pic.

And the feeding is probably part of it. I'm still getting the hang of how much food they need right now. If I block off the sunlight from the tank will that help get rid of it?

And I'll keep reading on how to setup a refugium.
