Yes, or it will eventually completely cover the front of the tank and you won't be able to see in. Fish stores sell algae scrapers specifically for this work. Or you can cheap out like I did and use a metal kitchen spatula. Unless you have an acrylic tank...for those you need special scrapers to avoid scratching the tank.

i have glass so i can just get after it with a scraper...is there a reason why it is on the fron of the glass more so than the back? aside from the overflow portion?

Is the front glass more exposed to light by any chance. If it is tilt the light a bit by placing something under rear corner of the light strip which will give more lighting to back. LMK if this helped.

The coraline you scrape off can be used to seed dead rock,

I scrape mine off the front and sides. I just let it grow on the back wall usually. My nanocube has rounded corners and it's a complete pain to scrape off coralline algae in the rounded corners. I really have to stay on top of it in the nano. Anyone have any good ideas on something to use to scrape rounded corners?

A guitar pick works good for sealing rounded corners (spreading silicone) maybe it would work for scraping algae off too.A little elbow grease (those guitar pics can stand a lot of pressure)
