Thinking about getting a mouse?

Ok im 11 and i really badly want a mouse. The problem is convincing my mom. We are sort of in finantial trouble, and i have 5 fish (which are this tiney little school) and two dogs. and my mom hates the smell. So, First question: How can i convince my parents Second Question: What is a list of things i would need? (under 30 bux to start and hopefully under 10 bux a month after). Any advice on how to make money (i would probably have to pay)Any solutions for the smell And also, to avoid the cost of food, is there any way i can make my own mouse food? O yah and our house is for sale so i would need to keep it fresh smelling...maybe keeping it outside?

THANKS!!!

Hi fishluver,
Unfortunately, you may not like my advice.

I think it would be a wise decision on your part to hold off on anymore pets.

It sounds like your parents are in a real bind and speaking from an adult point of view, it can be extremely stressful on the family as a whole. Bringing in a new pet, who will have it's own financial needs (housing, food, bedding, medication if it gets sick) into the mix will not help your family.

That's great that you want to take the financial responsibility for it, you're to be commended for that.
You could get a job pet sitting, mowing lawns those kinds of things and save up some money.
When your family is settled into your new residence, hopefully you'll be in a position to afford another pet.

I wish you and your family the very best of luck.

I understand what you mean, a lot of families are going through a rough patch and some things have to take priority for now.

I think you'll find that your patience on this will pay off in the end.

escape

It could be a little hard to keep a mouse because they can escape from their cage. My brother lose 2 of his white mice.

If your close to Cincinnati I will give you a Russian dwarf hamster for free. I can even get you a start up cage. They don't make a lot of mess and when they do stink its a sweet smell, not a poop smell. The one I would give you is hand raised and wont be skittish or bite. They are about 3 months old as well.

As for care they will need bedding, mix of seeds, and water. Mice and hamsters will need a wheel as well, they have to burn all their energy. You couldn't keep it outside as it wont be able to make a warm tunnel or burrow, and it would freeze. My fiance and I have 8 hamsters and the monthly cost to own them is about 15$. If you bought a big bag or seeds and a big bag of bedding, it would go a long way.

If your mom doesn't want one it will be hard to convince her otherwise. Mom's don't think 11 yr olds will stick with the care of the pet. You could take really good care of all your other pets (like walk the dogs everyday, clean the fish tank, and accept the responsibility of feeding all of them) and then use that to convince them you would care for a new pet. I can tell you from experience that the more pets you have the harder it is to give them the care and attention they need. Hope that helps.

i have the same prob with my mum, not so much dad but you know. i'm trying to convince mum to let me get a 4 foot tank. i have two rats and a mouse that lives with them. she wont give in unless you're really persistent, like me LOL. thers a rule at the petshop, if you are under 18, you can by animals except fish. i bought 3 mice there with out mum, they let me get them because they know me really, really well and i help out there a bit there with fish. oh heres an idea. if you know anyone who breeds them ask them to give you one or you could convince the pet shop. buy the mouse without mum knowing. let herself figure it out. by the time she know's it'll be to late to get rid of it. i'm going to buy a bird using that same technique. IT REALLY WORKS!!!

Hi fishluver,
I personally have Fancy Rats. They cute and cuddlely you can feed them carrots and lettuce but I tell you they need a lot of nutrients and vitamins that come from seeds, dried fruit, and hay. i don't wanna be a boomer but they require a lot of bedding changes and adding some bedding with fragance is costly believe me I know. Sorry for giving you the news you dont want but is the reality.
Good Luck.
