Aqua Tech 5-15 Review.

Summary: HOB type of filter. Designed by Aqua Tech for 5-15 gallon fish tanks. Flows about 125 GPH. The filter media allows good bacteria colonies to grow on it promoting biological filtration.
*I am reviewing the legacy model Aqua-Tech 5-15*

Pros: Cheap, Pretty good GPH for 5-10 gallon tanks, Ez-change filter media is easy to find in stores and replace, Fairly sturdy, Quiet.

Cons: After about 3-4 weeks water will start to cloud up (this is no problem if you do weekly or bi-weekly water changes), GPH is probably not adequate for a 15 gallon, Suction tube is short (you will need an extension for a deeper tank), advertised on Wal-Marts 10 gallon starter kit as 175 GPH.

Overall: Decent filter if your on a budget or don't want to spend through the roof for a filter. However if you have the money I would get a better AquaClear filter. Anyway I've had my Aqua-Tech 5-15 on my 10 gallon for 4 years. It does it's job well and I don't plan to replace it unless it breaks on me.

4/5 stars. For bigger tanks these make great secondary filters.

AquaTech filters are good filters in my oppinion. I have a 5-15 on my 10 gallon and it does a great job.I also have AquaTech on my 55 gallon tanks and AquaTech on my 75 gallon oscar tank and all them do a great job. AquaTech filters are actually made by Marineland and i sometimes by the Marineland replacement filters for them.

I have had an Aqua Tech 40-60 as a backup on my 60 tank for 8 months now. I think it makes the difference in Bio filtering helping my Magnum 350.

I also have a tiny 5-10 AquaTech HOB I keep running on my 80 tank to use on my QT tank whenever I have to medicate a fish. Got tired of doing water chnages on the QT everyday when I have a sick fish and this tiny filter allows me to leave them in there for the full 7 days of medication without a water change which helps keep the fish stress down as well.

I know this is a few weeks old but I use to own one of these filters so i'll add my input. I had an aqua tech 5-15 on my 10 gallon tank for many years and never had any problems with it. This was my childhood set up that housed guppies. It was very quiet as long as you keep the tank filled and it seemed to keep my tank clean. It was easy to adjust the flow you just push down or pull up on the intake tube. I never had to take it apart for cleaning either only taking out the filter to rinse it. Overall Good filter. I don't see it much in stores though.

Thanks for the input. Yea I agree. I only clean it once year just to get that gunk out of the tubes and impeller. The sell these things like hotcakes at Wal-mart it seems like. Every person in the fish isle seems to have an aquatech.
