Reverse Osmosis - Deionization Forum on reverse osmosis and deionization topics, also check out the Reverse Osmosis and Deionization Units article. Investing in an RO/DI water purification filter is well worth the cost. Using reverse osmosis filtered water for top-offs and water changes will go a long way in helping with nuisance algae problems.

Double the output of RO unit

I was recently at a LFS purchasing an RO filter (1 micron sediment filter). After explaining my coralife 3 stage 50 gal per day setup, he told me I could double the output by running an extra RO filter along side the existing one. I thought the sediment and carbon filters are different sizes. He told me they are different but I didn't have to worry about it, I could keep what I had and just add on to it. I could run any TFC RO membrane in parallel to increase the output.

Has anyone else heard this or is it too good to be true.

OK... it's been 9 days since I posted this and no one has been able to help me so I had to go to a plumbing warehouse to get my answer.

Ah there is someone out there!!
... The answer is: "yes". You have to split the lines on the intake, the filtered water and also the waste water. You do not need to increase the size of the sediment or carbon filter.

It's a good and cheaper alternative. I was thinking finding an RO unit on craigslist and adding the RO unit and another sediment filter.
