Reverse Osmosis - Deionization Forum on reverse osmosis and deionization topics, also check out the Reverse Osmosis and Deionization Units article. Investing in an RO/DI water purification filter is well worth the cost. Using reverse osmosis filtered water for top-offs and water changes will go a long way in helping with nuisance algae problems.

Messed up =[

Hey all - I've got my tank up and running and my refractometer is telling me i've put in waaaay to much salt, (luckily, i don't have fish yet, and i've only just put my first peices of LR in) So i'm taking some of the saltwater out, and replacing it with RO water (i hope i put this in the right thread area).... But this is what I wanted to ask:
Can i take the saltwater out and keep it in a big container in the garage or somewhere because it's already salted up, and I don't want to waste the salt (MONEY!) So can i do that? Or do i have to chuck it =[

Yes you can keep the mixed water, but get it to the right SG.
You will need to keep the water moving, so place a powerhead in the tub with an air line.

^^^+1

I keep around 30 gallons of saltwater mixing and on hand at any given time, even though I only change 10-15 gallons every two weeks. If I get a new fish and need to quarantine it, I'll drain 10G out of the display into the QT tank and put in 10 new gallons of water. If something happens (chemical added, some kind of contamination, etc) to the tank and I need to do a large change, it's ready to go. I just keep my old Quiet One 2200 pump in there to keep the water mixing and aerated.

If can hook to container properly, why not? Just make sure it's hung/mounted properly so it wont fall off the container.

You can also just use simple aeration to keep water alive (aerated/circulated) along w/ heater if desired.
